DREAMWORLD

It was 1996 when VINYL JAPAN released an 80s CD compilation entitled "DREAMWORLD". It was a compilation of DAN TREACY's DREAMWORLD LABEL from 1985-1987. NEW WAVE has been an overused term but here we could hear bands that could be on It's GENRE. We could call this an INDIE selection since most of the bands and artists maintain there Independent form. A C-86 type of music that you should also have in your collection. Dan Treacy and Emelee Browne ran the Dreamworld label between 1985 and 1988. The intention initially was to re-release deleted TELEVISION PERSONALITIES recordings, Dreamworld label soon began to issue records by other artists which is well seen in this compilation that has a specific time frame. It's not also related in any way with DREAMWORLD theme park in Australia but It's pure music out of the extraordinary. When I got hold of the CD, I already expected good music since I was already familiar with most of the bands and artists included on the compilation. THE MIGHTY LEMON DROPS is the only band that made it big here in MANILA during the 80s. We have also the band who call themselves ONE THOUSAND VIOLINS which had Radio Exposure on two Legendary NEW WAVE MANILA RADIO shows namely CLUB RETRO and LITEWAVE from 2002-2006. The rest of the line-up are already obscure and PINOY WAVERS like me who dug deep in the NEW WAVE GENRE would also be familiar with them.

So who is DAN TREACY? DAN TREACY is the singer/songwriter of the English Band "TELEVISION PERSONALITIES" which incidentally has four songs in the compilation. An underated musical genius behind "Whaam!" Indie record label which he launched together with ED BALL back in 1981. Hmmmp!! Not to be mistaken with George Michael's band guys. He He He!! "Whaam!" was named after the Roy Litchenstein painting. This guy should have been given great recognition on his works but instead he still remain in the underground up to date. Well, he was considered to be the inspiration for some INDIE RECORD labels for them to pursue their love of music. He was also part of the documentary film about the "CREATION RECORDS" which is also a great Indie label during those times. Dan was even tracked down by the late KURT COBAIN of NIRVANA back in 1991 just to open for the band's concert. Wheeew!! Another of those people who contributed a lot in the music industry and have stayed in the ANTI-POP world.

The CD contains 20 great tracks from 8 bands/artists that will leave you breathless. YUP!! It's another journey to the past but with a different flavor of pop. This seperates the MAN from the BOYS if you'll be talking about 80s fanatics. Definitely, you'll enjoy the ride which I think would give you a totally different perspective of what underground 80s music was back on those days. Dan Treacy's band TELEVISION PERSONALITIES together with HANGMAN'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS has the most number of songs here with a total of four each. I uploaded the entire CD for you guys to listen to it and I hope you'll like the selection the way I did. Very interesting music indeed!!
